Reply danny Posted:4/28/2016 I ordered and received a Hayward 1 1/2 horsepower motor and shaft seal for use with a Hayward pump model number SP 2810X15.

The seal appears to be different from the one I removed.

In order to get to the indents (which, I assume, prevent the seal from spinning), I believe I will have to force the seal past the lower metal in order to get to them.

However, while the nick in and of itself would not cause an air leak, it does indicate that the inside of the pump had some sort of problem, such as an acorn or a stone lodged inside.

Check that the cover lid and O-ring are in the proper position.

Then you should double-check all of your suction connections.

The putty was then removed in a sequential manner to determine which connection was causing air to enter the system.

I bought a new lid and gasket and installed them.

Could this be the source of the problem?

I have all of the new seals ready to go, and I’ve already removed the impeller and pump from the dead motor.

I have access to a metal ring/piece on the shaft side of the impeller, and the only thing I can think of to do with it is to force it out with a deep well socket and a hammer.

The result was that I ended up with three metal gaskets that I had no idea where they belonged and couldn’t find them on the schematic, and I still didn’t have a prime.

The impeller was stuck on very tightly, and while I was attempting to remove it, a section of the outer edge snapped off.

Posted:5/10/2013 a decrease in prime – If you are truly losing prime to the point where your pump is no longer able to suck in water – there is no water flow – you may have a leak in your vacuum hose that needs to be addressed.

Check to see that the hose is completely submerged.

Attach the rest of your hoses but do not connect the cleaner.

Your pump’s prime should be maintained once more.

If you are experiencing prime loss right now, you may have a leak in one of the hoses.
