Removing a Stuck Water Filter

If you are experiencing trouble removing your water filter, follow the steps outlined in this article. These instructions are for removing water filters that are difficult to remove or have become trapped. Please first read and follow the directions for removing your water filter, which may be found in your Owners Manual. Filters Located in the Base Grill

In the grille region of the refrigerator, a large number of water filters may be found towards the bottom front of the device. Most of the time, these grille-mounted filters are fairly simple to remove and reinstall. If you believe it is stuck, it is possible that you have not twisted it in the proper direction or that you have not pushed the button all the way in.

Quarter Turn Filter

To remove the water filter, turn it a quarter turn to the left on the water filter. Normally, the cap will be oriented vertically
However, this is not always the case. Take the water filter from of the water supply completely. Remove the cap (which may be required on some models)

Remember to put the cap on the new filter after it has been installed.

If the water filter is stuck

Cover the water filter cap with a piece of cloth (this will assist to prevent the cap from being damaged)
Lock onto the water filter cap with normal pliers and spin the cap a quarter turn.

Remove the bottom grill from the refrigerator by unplugging it and following the directions in the Installation Instructions. By removing the bottom grill, you may have easier access to the filter cap and may be able to grab the cap with less difficulty. Please keep in mind that applying excessive pressure or force to the water filter may cause it to break and/or cause internal damage to the water system.

Push Button Filter

Find the button on the base grill and press it. Continue pressing the button in all the way until the water filter has been completely freed from the filter assembly. Remove the water filter from the system.

If the water filter is stuck

While the water filter is being expelled, press and hold down the button. The filter should be activated first, followed by the button. In order for the filter to disengage from the filter assembly, it must: Remove the bottom grill from the refrigerator by unplugging it and following the directions in the Installation Instructions. Because of the removal of the bottom grill, you should have easier access to the clogged filter.

Push down firmly on the button, then look to see if the filter has shifted. If the filter has shifted, firmly press it back into place and then firmly push the button once more to reset it. The future will be made easier as a result of this.

Note: Don’t forget to remove the filter cap from the end of the filter before you begin.

Filter Located Inside the Refrigerator

When you open the door to the Water Filter Compartment, the door will open in an upward motion. Pull the filter entirely out of the door after it has been completely opened.

If the water filter is stuck:

Close and re-open the Water Filter Compartment Door a few times to see if it helps. Make certain that the door is completely open
Turn off the water supply to the refrigerator and use the water dispenser to flush out some of the water from the water line line, if necessary. Dispense several cups of water

Placing a piece of cloth beneath the old filter before removing it will capture any little drops of water that may fall when the filter is removed. Take hold of the filter and spin it to the left until it comes to a complete halt. While you are spinning the filter, carefully take it away from the filter head with your other hand. Maintain the filter’s level in order to reduce water leakage. If the filter does not come loose readily, it is possible that air has become trapped inside. Press down on the water dispenser and the filter should come straight out
This will relieve any pressure. Remove the plastic cap from the new filter and toss it in the trash. Fill the top of the new filter with tap water to ensure that it is completely filled. Place the filter inside the cartridge holder by matching the arrow on the filter with the corresponding arrow on the cartridge holder (see illustration). If the cartridge holder does not have an arrow, simply ensure that the filter is pointing forward when the cartridge is placed. Push the filter slightly upward to contact the top of the cartridge in the filter head
This will ensure that the filter is properly seated. Gradually move the filter to the right, until the filter cartridge comes to a complete stop. It will naturally rise into position as you spin the cartridge
When the filter has been replaced, it is necessary to clear the system of any trapped air that has accumulated. To use the dispenser, choose Water from the dispenser option and push the pad until the water starts flowing. Due to the presence of air in the new filter, the first few ounces of water may splutter. This is quite normal. Water should be dispensed continuously for roughly 1-2 gallons in order to ensure that all air is removed from the system.

To remove and replace the RPWFE Filter Cartridge, follow these steps: Instructions are printed on an insert that is supplied with the filter package. The position of the filter changes depending on the model type. It will be positioned either on the upper left-hand corner of the fresh food interior or within the left refrigerator door on the left side of the refrigerator interior. If you have a BLUE Filter Holder, the following steps must be followed:REMOVING THE FILTER CARTRIDGE:

Remove the old cartridge by opening the filter door and tugging on the bottom of the cartridge to dislodge it from the filter clips on the inside of the filter housing. Swing the cartridge outward until you hear the ‘click’ of the cartridge holder interacting with the bracket
Then return the cartridge to its original position. Turn the cartridge one-quarter turn counter-clockwise to activate it. Remove the cartridge by pulling it away from the cartridge holder once it has been twisted out of the way. It is possible that a tiny amount of water will leak out

DELIVERY AND INSTALLATION OF THE FILTER CARTRIDGE:

Make sure that the filter cartridge and the cartridge holder are aligned such that the word “FRONT” is visible at the top of the unit. Push the cartridge all the way to the back of the device until it is completely enclosed. The filter cartridge should be twisted one-quarter turn clockwise until the word ‘FRONT’ is facing outward
While making sure the cartridge is firmly placed in the holder, gently swing the filter inward until it is in the desired position. If the filter will not swing freely, check to be that it is correctly aligned and fully inserted within the cartridge holder before proceeding. It is not necessary to have the RED indicators showing.

If you have a GREY Filter Holder, you may remove the filter cartridge as follows:REMOVING THE FILTER CARTRIDGE

Remove the old cartridge by opening the filter door and tugging on the bottom of the cartridge to allow it to swing outward, as shown in the illustration. When the cartridge is no longer able to swing freely, carefully pull it out of the cartridge holder until it comes loose. It is possible that a tiny amount of water will leak out

DELIVERY AND INSTALLATION OF THE FILTER CARTRIDGE:

With the word ‘FRONT’ facing outward, center the cartridge in the cartridge holder so that it is in the center of the cartridge. Continue to push the cartridge inward until it is completely inserted. In order for the cartridge holder to be properly installed, the letter ‘FRONT’ must be centered on it. It is not necessary to see the RED lights
Nevertheless, it is necessary to confirm that the cartridge is fully placed in the holder before gently swinging the filter into position. To determine if the filter will not swing freely, check to be that it is correctly aligned with and fully inserted within the cartridge holder.
