Installing the water heater

When I first installed the PEX for the water supply lines in the house, I ran a line from the main supply, shaped it into a loop in the utility room, and then connected it to a manifold in the basement. I routed PEX from this manifold to each and every fixture in the home that required hot water. This particular phase necessitated the use of the loop.

When unsafe amounts of pressure build up in the tank, the temperature/pressure relief valve will automatically activate.

Fortunately, because I had already installed a 30-amp circuit in the utility room when I completed all of the wiring for the home, connecting conduit to the box and running cable through it was as simple as connecting the wires.

I had previously installed the vents for the water heater’s intake and exhaust, using the same vents that I had used for the ERV.

What remained was just connecting one end of a piece of insulated flexible duct to the vent and the other end to the water heater, and the job was complete.
