Replace the water filter in your Samsung refrigerator
There are three different types of Samsung water filters, so you’ll want to be sure you’re getting the right one for your refrigerator before purchasing one. Replacement filters are available for purchase on ouraccessories page if needed. To begin, identify the filter in your refrigerator’s model. You should refer to your user handbook if you are unclear about the location. Then, on the filter itself, look for the model number printed on it. This will inform you of which of the following filter types you will require for your application.
If you’re not sure whether or not you need to replace the filter, look for an indication light on your refrigerator.
If you are about to replace the filter, the light will become purple to indicate that it is time.
You should alter the filter as soon as possible at this point.
- After turning off the water, identify the filter and clean it as needed. If you are unclear of where it is, please refer to your user handbook for assistance. Once you have unlocked the old water filter, remove its lid and swivel it counterclockwise to reinstall it. Afterwards, just pull it straight out of the filter housing to remove it. Prior to placing the new filter in the system, remove the protective cover from the top of the existing filter. Afterwards, insert it directly into the filter housing and turn it counter-clockwise
- Examine to ensure that the lock symbol corresponds to the indication line.
Types of HAFCU1 filters include:
- After turning off the water, identify the filter and clean it as needed. If you are unclear of where it is, please refer to your user handbook for assistance. Using a left-handed twist, you can remove the old filter. This will allow you to access it
- Afterwards, pull it downward to remove it from the filter housing. The replacement filter should be inserted by pushing it up into the filter housing and then turning it to the right. Check to ensure that the notch at the top of the filter corresponds to the arrow on the filter’s housing. Replace your filter and then flush it thoroughly with a few liters of water to wash out any contaminants or air that may have gotten into it. Then, make sure that the water filter light on your refrigerator is turned back on. Please refer to the following sections for further information.
After turning off the water, locate the filter and clean it as necessary. You should reference your user manual if you are unclear of where it is located. Using a left-hand twist, you may remove the old filter. Upon doing so, it will be unlocked. Afterwards, pull it down to release it from the filter housing. Using your fingers, press the new filter upwards and then to the right; this will ensure that it is properly installed. To avoid clogging the filter, make sure it has a notch at the top that matches the arrow on the housing.
Then, make sure that the water filter light on your refrigerator is turned off and back on again.
- If theFilter Resetbutton is accessible on the control panel, locate it and press it. In some cases, it is a secondary function of another button on the panel
- Once identified, press and hold the proper button for 3 seconds until the light turns out
- The filter symbol will either turn off or return to its usual color when the light is turned off. This restarts the timer for the next six months.
Please keep in mind that some models may require you to press two buttons at the same time in order to reset the light. Touch screen models will instead make use of on-screen menus. Consult your refrigerator’s owner’s handbook for detailed operating instructions. The water filter light and timer on your Family Hub refrigerator may be reset by following the instructions outlined below.
- Start by selecting Apps from the Home screen, followed by Fridge Manager
- Then choose Water Filter from the Home screen, followed by Reset and then Proceed. The filter light and timer will be reset as a result of this. If you require a Samsung water filter, you may purchase one by pressing the Buy Filter button after tapping the water filter symbol.
On models RF4289 and RSG309, you may also reset the filter light by pressing the reset button.
- Then, at the bottom of the screen, navigate to and pick theSettingsicon, and then tapWater Filter to begin. As soon as the Water Filter menu appears, press Next three times in the lower right corner of the screen until you reach page 4/4 of the Water Filter menu. Hold the object with your fingertips. Remove and reinstall the water filter until it changes its status, which may be done in the middle of the display. After the message “Filter Replaced” appears and disappears from the screen, tapSave in the lower right corner of the screen.
In order to define what is filtered by a water filter, the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) have developed a variety of standards. Samsung’s water filters are Carbon Filters that meet the requirements of the NSF/ANSI 42, NSF/ANSI 53, and NSF/ANSI 401 standards, among other requirements. NSF/ANSI 42 is a standard for food safety and sanitation.
- Filtered to decrease the presence of aesthetically objectionable contaminants like as chlorine and taste/odor
NSF/ANSI 53 is a standard that specifies how a product should be designed, manufactured, and tested.
- Certified to decrease a pollutant that has a negative impact on health. The following substances have been identified as having negative health effects by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Health Canada: Asbestos, Atrazine, Benzene, 2, 4-D, Carbofuran, Chlorbenzene, Cyst (99.99 percent), Endrin, Ethylbenzene, Lead, Lindane, Mercury, O-Dichlorobenzene, P-Dichlorobenzene, Tetrachloroethylene, Toxaphene
NSF/ANSI 401 is a standard for food safety and sanitation.
- It has been proven to lower one or more of the 15 emerging pollutants in drinking water by at least 50%. Pharmaceuticals and chemicals that are not yet controlled by the Environmental Protection Agency or Health Canada include: atenolol, bisphenol A, carbamazepine, DEET, estrone, linduron, nonylphenol, phenytoin, trimethoprim, and trimethoprim sodium.

How to replace the water purifier filter for my refrigerator?
The most recent update was made on September 22, 2020. Samsung refrigerators are fitted with filters that cleanse and deodorize the water they hold. When the maximum usage limit for each filter is reached, a red light will illuminate, signaling that the filters must be replaced. For information on how to change the water purifier filter, see the instructions below. It is also a good idea to consult the owner’s handbook of your refrigerator for further information.
When the water filter indicator is lit on the display panel
When the water filter indicator light reaches five months or 450 gallons, it is programmed to become orange, and when it reaches six months or 500 gallons, it is set to turn red. To reset the water filter indication, remove the filter and then reset the function on the control panel. Replace the filter and try again. The color of the light might vary depending on the type. Green or blue lights are common. Note:
- Based on the model that you own, the actual design of the display panel may change. Despite the fact that this image is a reference in English, it is also accessible in the language of your choice.
How to replace the water purifier filter
It is suggested that you change the filter as soon as the filter replacement notice shows on the display panel in order to ensure that you always obtain clean and sanitary water or ice. It is advised that you utilize the water after you have poured out more than 500ml after changing the filter. When replacing the water filter, you must first turn off the water supply valve to prevent water from leaking. Once the replacement is complete, be certain that the water supply valve is switched back on.
Step 2: Remove the filter cover and rotate the water filter counterclockwise to clear the sediment.
Place the new filter into the filter case and tighten it with your fingers by turning it clockwise until it locks.
- This picture is only a sample in English, and the image is also available in the language of your choice
- When removing the filter cartridge, make sure to keep it horizontal.
Reset the filter indicator light after replacement
Immediately following the replacement of the old filter with a new one, the filter replacement cycle must be reset by pushing and holding the alarm button for three seconds. This ensures that the product performs well and that replacement cycles are followed. When the filter indication is reset, the color of the indicator changes from red to green (or the words Replace Filter will disappear). Please keep in mind that this image is only a preview in English and that the full version is available in the language of your choice.
To determine which filter has to be replaced, look for the serial numbers that relate to each filter for your refrigerator model.
- The serial number may be easily seen by opening the upper left door on the front or the lower left door on the side
- Both doors are located in the top left corner. The label for your refrigerator contains the model name and serial number of your refrigerator
Customer care representatives may provide a list of available filters, and you can also purchase a filter online by entering the refrigerator’s serial number in the search box.

Follow these simple step-by-step directions to learn how to replace the water filter in your Samsung refrigerator. It is critical to change your Samsung water filter on a regular basis for the health of your family and your refrigerator! A clean water filter installed in your Samsung french door, four flex, or side-by-side refrigerator may make a significant impact in the quality of your drinking water and food preparation.
Step-by-Step: How to Change the Water Filter on a Samsung Refrigerator
If you don’t have technical skills, changing your water filter is a breeze thanks to a Samsung design. You can begin by following the steps outlined in this document.
Step 1: Purchase the Correct Samsung Water Filter
We strongly advise you to get the Samsung Factory Water Filter. If at all possible, stay away from knock-off brands. Although they are less expensive, the quality is not similar. The Samsung Factory Water Filter may be purchased online through Amazon, with most items shipping the same day on conventional Prime or free 2-hour delivery on Prime Now, depending on the product. We encourage that you sign up for the Amazon Subscribe and Save program in order to save money on future purchases. To ensure that you never have an out-of-date water filter again, schedule your water filter to be delivered automatically every five months.
Step 2: Verify you have the right part!
Refrigerator water filters are model number specific, which means that you must use the exact filter for your refrigerator and not just any water filter. WARNING: Before opening the package, double-check that you have the appropriate filter. It is not possible to return the water filter once it has been installed. The water filter component number DA29-00020B (shown below) is used in the majority of Samsung french door, four flex, and side-by-side refrigerators; nevertheless, it is important to check the refrigerator model number to ensure that you are purchasing the proper filter for your product.
See the following specifications for further information: Your Samsung water filter will be sent with a new water filter, an instruction manual, and sticker reminders for the filter’s expiration date.
Step 3: Locate the Samsung Water Filter on Your Refrigerator.
The position of the water filter is determined by the setup of your Samsung refrigerator. French DoorsFour Flex models have a water filter that is situated between the produce drawers and the French DoorsFour Flex models’ fresh food area (as pictured below).
Samsung side-by-side refrigerators are equipped with a water filter, which is positioned on the fresh food side of the bottom drawer on the right-hand side of the unit.
Step 4: Prepare the Filter for Installation
Simple removal of the plastic wrapping and removal of the top cap are all that is required to ready the filter for installation. A well designed filter will look something like this.
Step 5: Install the Samsung Water Filter
Installing the water filter is accomplished by turning the filter knob to the left. It takes approximately 1/4 turn to unlock the filter. You should be able to remove the filter without cutting off the water supply. To release the filter, slowly move the refrigerator forward and switch off the main water supply. In order to install the replacement filter, screw it into place with a quarter-clockwise turn. When the filter is locked in place, you may hear a pressure noise, which is completely normal.
Step 6: Purge 1 Gallon of Water
1 gallon of water should be sent through the filter. For the first 3-5 seconds, you may hear some air in the lines. This is quite normal. Remove the water from the container. It’s now time to put your water dispenser to work!
Step 7: Reset the Change Water Filter Indicator
By pressing and holding the Crushed Ice button for three seconds, you may reset the Change Water Filter Indicator light. Do You Have To Turn Water Off To Change Your Samsung Refrigerator Filter?
Samsung refrigerators with internal filters are equipped with an auto shut off valve, which eliminates the need to turn off the water to change the filter. Because customers have experienced installation issues as a result of shutting off the water, causing air locks and other issues, we do not recommend shutting off the water supply. When customers turn the water supply back on, they may experience sputtering water or even no water coming out of the faucet. Samsung refrigerators with external filters, on the other hand, nearly usually require the water to be turned off before the filters can be swapped out or replaced.
If this is the filter you require, turning off the water supply is a critical step in ensuring that you do not have a flood of water from this connection when changing your filter.
However, reducing pressure by dispensing some water is usually always a preferable choice.
How To Change An Internal Water Filter on a Samsung Refrigerator
Determine the placement of the water filter in your refrigerator. 2. Remove the old filter by lifting the protective cover (if your filter type has one) and turning it counter-clockwise to dislodge it. Alternatively, if it is difficult to lift, it is possible that pressure has built up; dispense some water and try to relax it before tugging it again. 3. Take your new filter out of the packing and remove the protective cover from it. 4. Press in the new filter and spin it clockwise until its lock symbol is aligned with the arrow.
- Replace the old filter.
- Replace the filter cap, if your filter type has one, and run several litres of water to confirm that the water has been adequately filtered and that any air has been drained out of the line.
- This assures that there will be no leaks in the future.
- Reset the filter-indicator light on the inside of your refrigerator.
- The indicator light should return to its original state of green.
- You may also go to the user manual that came with your Samsung refrigerator for complete instructions on how to change the water filter and reset the indication light on the refrigerator.
How To Change An External Water Filter on a Samsung Refrigerator
1. Locate the isolation valve, which should be situated somewhere along the water supply line to the refrigerator. Turn it off if it’s on. Using the water outlet located near the refrigerator, depressurize the system by drawing a large glass of water. 2. Have a bucket and a towel handy in case there is a tiny amount of water spilled throughout the operation. The old filter should be removed by depressing the locking collars at either end of the filter with your thumb nail (or something similar) while simultaneously pulling out the water supply line from the filter.
- It is possible to hold down the locking collar with your fingers or with a solid edged item, which will allow the hose to slip out with relative ease.
- We recommend that you use a sharp object, such as a Stanley knife.
- 4.
- For this, you may either place the filter under a running faucet and let the water to flow directly into a sink, or you can submerge the filter in a bucket or other container of water.
- 5.
- The line will go in approximately 5 – 10mm and you will be able to fully put the filter into place.
- After you’ve placed the filter in the bucket, switch on the water supply and allow approximately 5 litres of water to run through the filter and into the container.
After you have turned off the water supply, connect the line that flows into the refrigerator.
7.
8.
If the filter light on your Samsung refrigerator does not come back on, press and hold the “Ice Type” or “Moisture Control” buttons as well as the Child Lock button for three seconds.
Avoid holding the buttons for an excessive amount of time, since this may force the procedure to restart, requiring you to release all of the buttons and hold them again until the light changes to green again.
You may also go to the user manual that came with your Samsung refrigerator for complete instructions on how to change the water filter and reset the indication light on the refrigerator.
Can I Run My Samsung Refrigerator Without the Water Filter?
Water filters are designed to eliminate toxins such as lead, mercury, chlorine, and other contaminants from your drinking water and ice, among other things. The majority of Samsung refrigerators may still work well even if they do not have a water filter installed. In spite of the fact that rotary valves in your refrigerator may bypass the water filter and provide you with water even when there isn’t a water filter installed, this does not imply that you should continue to use your Samsung refrigerator in this manner.
At first, you may be unsure about how to replace your water filter.
In the event that you do not change your old filter after 6 months, you may face mineral buildup, which may result in your refrigerator experiencing costly malfunctions.

a rating of one out of five stars Product that is a forgery. The Walmart product I purchased in-store was genuine! On March 21, 2020, a review was conducted in the United States. Don’t buy anything from Amazon since it is a phony. Read the paragraphs and pay close attention to the font size and style. The one on the right is the genuine article. I’ve always thought of it as being similar to the one that came with the refrigerator. Walmart has never failed to deliver on its promises. (It’s hard to tell from the photographs.) “Their” printer is a jerk!
It’s a phony product, to be honest. I couldn’t believe Amazon would allow this to happen. At the very least, get a printer that produces labels at a resolution of 300dpi. Even the most obvious signs are often overlooked by average customers. I’m not going to let my $3.5k smart fridge go to waste!
Top reviews from the United States
On July 4, 2018, a review was published in the United States, confirming the purchase. I only gave it one star since there is no such thing as a zero. Because the overall rating was high, I didn’t bother to read the comments, which should have made it very clear that this is a low-cost imitation and NOT a genuine Samsung product. We were unable to get it inside the refrigerator, and I believe it may have really bent or destroyed the small portion that was inside the fridge. When comparing it to my actual filter, there are just minor variations to notice.
- This has made me quite unhappy.
- On November 5, 2018, a review was published in the United States of America.
- They have the words “Genuine Filter” written all over them (the first indication that a fraud is taking place), and they are attempting to deceive you into believing that they are “genuine Samsung,” which they are not.
- There is a statement on the package claiming they are created from “globally sourced components” (aka China).
- Consider how much water you use on a daily basis.
- All of this is purely my opinion.
- Don’t buy anything from Amazon since it is a phony.
The one on the right is the genuine article.
Walmart has never failed to deliver on its promises.

Purchase that has been verified If I had the option, I would have given less than one star.
It has only lasted approximately three months and is already filtering the water at such a sluggish rate that it is practically hard to use it properly.
Their argument is that it is Amazon’s responsibility that THEIR filter has malfunctioned, not their own.
My money was completely squandered.
I’ll make an attempt to return, but I’m not optimistic!
Purchase that has been verified All of this is based on my personal opinion: This product is unquestionably a forgery.
For comparison purposes, I’ve placed the new “Samsung” filter (on the right) next to the one I’ve been using for more than 6 months (left).
I did not attempt to flow water through them because, given that they had failed my visual assessment, I was concerned that they would similarly fail to filter and contain water if I tried (something other reviewers have noted).
Once again, this is solely my viewpoint.
The review will take place in the United States on July 10, 2020.
I’ve included images that demonstrate the inauthenticity of the product.
There are several critical components missing from the replacements (particularly, the authentication tag), so proceed with caution if you decide to purchase or use these filters.
I’m not sure if this is true for all of the filters, but the ones I received were definitely not “Genuine water filters,” as they were advertised to be on the package.
On December 21, 2017, a review was conducted in the United States.
The fact that this is a part of a public water system means that it is extremely clean to begin with; it is just a required element of the system if you want to utilize the water in the refrigerator’s door function.
On November 25, 2015, it was reviewed in the United States and verified as a purchase.
However, they perform as claimed, and I have confidence in them.
Another point to add is that many evaluations of third-party filters would express delight in the fact that “the water flow is far better than with the Samsung filter.
I’d also want to point out that the Samsung OEM filter is NSF 53 certified, however none of the third-party filters I’ve looked at has received this certification to far (most have no certification at all, and one I found was “independently certified at NSF 42” but has no NSF emblem on it).
On March 11, 2021, a review will be conducted in the United States.
Using a knock off filter had been working perfectly for me for many years with no issues.
One of them worked perfectly.
He was kind and informed me that my ice maker motor had failed.
Within three days, the water and ice were no longer functional.
I worked for three days and then stopped.
In the days before the second repair appointment, I obtained and fitted an original Samsung filter that I had previously purchased.
Both ice and water immediately began to function properly. To be sure I didn’t miss my service appointment, I waited until the very last minute. It has been more than two months since then, and everything is still running smoothly!

Samsung Fridge Filters: Easy-Guide to Replacing, Resetting and Changing.
Samsung is one of the most successful corporations in the world today. The South Korean technology corporation, which has its headquarters in Seoul’s Samsung Town, was initially started as a trade company, but it entered the electronics sector in the 1970s after expanding into other markets. Samsung declared in 2015 that it intended to surpass General Electric as the world’s largest appliance manufacturer. To achieve this, as you might expect, the company had to outperform numerous well-known global corporations, like Whirlpool, Bosch, and Electrolux, among others.
- Samsung’s collection of home appliances will feature refrigerators that supplied sparkling as well as still, filtered drinking water, making them far more sophisticated than anything else that other household manufacturers were manufacturing at the time.
- Samsung is unquestionably one of the world’s biggest appliance manufacturers, despite the fact that they are not exactly at the top of the scoreboard that has just been established.
- One of the reasons water tastes so much better when it comes out of a Samsung refrigerator is due to the superior filtering system that the refrigerator has installed.
- It is critical that you update your Samsung water filter on a regular basis if you want to continue drinking wonderful water at home.
- This will result in terrible tasting drinks that you will be embarrassed to give your friends and family.
We’ve put together a simple tutorial on everything you need to know about replacing your Samsung fridge filter at home so that you can continue to be proud of your great beers, clean water, and crystal-clear ice.
1. How to replace RSG5UCRS Samsung Fridge Filter:
When it comes to replacing your RSG5UCRS Samsung Fridge Filter, we have some good news for you: it’s more simpler than you would imagine. When the filter indicator light becomes orange or pink, it indicates that a new filter should be purchased. When the filter indicator becomes red, it is time to replace it. If six months have passed and the indication light has not gone red, we nonetheless recommend that you replace the filter in order to preserve the excellent quality of your drinking water at all times.
Only internal filters should be replaced according to the procedures provided below.
- The old water filter may be removed by turning it 45 degrees to the left to open it
- At this point, gently remove the old water filter and toss it away
- The water will stop off automatically at this time. Insert the new water filter into the available area and rotate it 45 degrees to the right
- If the padlock symbol on the filter corresponds to the sign on the filter, the filter is in the proper position. Immediately following the installation of the new filter, push the water filter reset button for three seconds to reset the light indicator.
Suggestions for improvement In the event that you are having difficulty removing the water filter, it is possible that there is excessive water pressure behind the filter. Remove the top two refrigerator shelves and use a stronger pull on the filter to get it out. If you are unable to squeeze the new filter into the available area, turn off the water supply valve and dispense a little amount of water. As a result, the pressure will be reduced, making it easier to install the new filter. All of the steps that follow are for external filters only.
Instructions on how to change an internal filter may be found further up the page.
- Immediately turn off the water supply
- Remove the old cartridge from the system and dispose of it properly
- The water filter should be positioned such that it flows in the direction of the refrigerator
- The inlet and exit tubing should be connected to the proper end of the filter by firmly inserting the tube all the way into the filter until it is snugly shut
- Check to see that the tube is square and free of scratches – you may trim it if required. The filter clip should be installed according to the directions in the installation manual. 3. How to Reset the Water Filter Indicator Light on a Samsung Fridge
In addition to the water filter, every Samsung refrigerator that has one features a water filter indicator that tells you when it’s time to replace the water cartridge. The filter should be replaced once every six months regardless of whether or not the light changes color. This will ensure that you continue to drink the high-quality water that you have come to like. If you don’t change your water filter on a regular basis, it won’t function properly. Instead of drinking great-tasting, clean water, you’ll be forced to drink strange-tasting water that may include unwelcome toxins.

5. Why You Need to Change Your Fridge Filter Every 6 Months
You might believe that you only need to change your refrigerator filter when the indicator light indicates that you should – but this is not the case. In some cases, waiting until the light goes red might be harmful to your health. A water filter prevents pollutants from flowing through the pipes and into your drinking water supply. When the water filter is no longer functional, all of the impurities that have been caught can now pass through into your drinking water, making it even worse than if you had not used a water filter at all.
Each Samsung water filter contains activated carbon filter material that has been approved for usage with a specific amount of water before the cartridge has to be replaced.
By absorbing impurities from water, activated carbon serves as a filter for such contaminants.
This occurs when there is no more surface area available for the absorption of additional pollutants and the filter’s capacity has been achieved.

How to Reset Filter Light on Samsung Fridge [2022]? (Solved)
It is standard on the vast majority of Samsung refrigerators to include filter light indicators, which inform users when it is time to replace the water filter. Moreover, after changing the filter in your Samsung refrigerator, you will have to reset the filter light on the appliance. What, though, is the reason behind this? Generally speaking, a water filter may be used for a maximum of six months before it has to be replaced. Waterline replacement could be essential, though, depending on what sort of water is passing through the waterline in question.
Unless and until you detect a difference in flavor that you would not have noticed without the filter light, you will be unable to identify whether or not your filter requires replacement.

The Operation of the Samsung Water Filter Indicator
In excellent functioning condition, the Samsung water filter will exhibit a blue or green color, depending on the type that you have installed on your system. The hue changes to orange or light pink after 5 months or 450 gallons of water has been added. This hue shift is typically a sign that it is time to upgrade the water filtration system in your home or business. After 6 months or 500 gallons of water have been utilized, the water filter indicator will turn red on your water filter. When you see this red light, it indicates that it is time to replace the water filter.
Furthermore, if you reside in a place where there is an excessive amount of limescale in the water supply, you will need to change your water filter more frequently than every six months.
Indicator for the presence of a water filter
After five months or 450 gallons of water, the water filter indicator light must first become orange, and then red after six months or 500 gallons of water. After turning orange, the light must next turn red. The hue of the light is determined on the model that you have purchased. It might be either green or blue in color. Identifying the multi-function button or buttons on your display that control the water filter indicator is required in order to restore the water filter indication to its default state.
