| Member Join Date: Jul 2017 Posts: 50 | Solved- Water Filter Housing is Stuck Hello! I want to change the water filter. I have been wrestling with the housing on the water filter for over an hour & it just will not come off! I have used the plastic tool but it’s not strong enough. I have turned off the incoming water, opened the faucets & run the water pump to get about half the water out of the housing & relieve the water pressure. I have used a blow dryer to warm up the lid & have tapped on the lid to see if it would loosen. nothing. Any ideas? Try pushing up on the canister while you’re turning it? There’s no use crying over spilt milk. unless it’s on your keyboard. |

Illinois Posts: 1,956 | Sounds like as good of time as any to eliminate future hassles by removing the assembly completely and either go to the blue Camco filter, or as I did, set up a whole house filter externally and use a taste, odor sediment filter for a fraction of the replacement cost(that is after you buy the filter housing and the M and F GHT x 3/4 NPT fittings). Yea I had to use one hand to hold the base and the other use the wrench and pull till it comes loose or the wrench breaks. Watch you don’t smash knunkles when something gives. Mine is the left front cover in our V-front trailer. Someone had to think of the worse place to put it, under sink next to water pump, wedged in corner of V next a tangle of wiring. I had to strap wiring to get a clear shot at it. You have to be very flexible to get to it. I have had some luck pushing up on the bottom of housing when I turn it. Good luck |

| Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2013 Posts: 1,474 | Mine was very difficult to remove the first time. I am the type that says, well, it do not work now. Relive all water pressure. Place the wrench as high on the housing as possible. Hold the bottom of the housing with one hand and turn the wrench with the other. It will come loose or break When you reassemble, put a little food grade gel or cooking oil, just a little, on the oring and hand tighten maybe using the wrench just to snug up. Other note, when winterizing, remove the filter and leave the filter housing off. Water in the threads will freeze and brake the housing. Purchase replace housing orings just to have on hand. I like the onboard filter on my Sunseeker. Been using it for 5 years without issue. When filling the water tank, I use the blue camco filter even though the whole house filter filters the tank water. Tech notes: put a towel under the housing and when you start. When you start to put the housing back on use plumbers grease on the rubber seals and the screw to tighten the housing. |

| Pickin’, Campin’, Mason Join Date: Aug 2015 Location: South Western PA Posts: 15,587 | The correct way to loosen and re-tighten the canister on a FR1 filter is relieve the water pressure, push up slightly on the canister to disengage the locking teeth and turn with the supplied wrench. When reinstalling, turn the canister to align the arrows (note: arrows NOT aligned in photo) pull down slightly to re-engage the locking teeth. You can see the locking teeth in the photo of the canister only. You won’t feel much movement in the pushing up and pulling down. but it does move. Once one side is off, you can rotate the filter rather than the fitting. Replace the filter with a 1/2″ coupling (67 cents at Home Depot). All you need to do is push the PEX into the connector and you are done. I plan to cut the pex side and replace with a sharkbite connection and unscrew the flex tubing. This allows me to keep the flex tubing as I am not sure how well the sharkbite will work with this and use a screw in union connection. This was more difficult than I had hoped and I have tried a few times only to be missing something and have to come back to do it again just because of the dumb flex hose. |

I myself removed the final tube and replaced with PEX. I have seen where they used PEX fittings with the tube and it leaks after a while as they are different sizes.
